about Jyothi Behne (she/her)
Based on the values of healing, growth and authenticity, Jyothi's coaching and teaching are a heart-led combination of deep listening, story-sharing, and her unshakeable belief in the power of human connection.
Jyothi battled eating disorders, self-harming behaviors, and debilitating anxiety for over 15 years. At the age of 29, Jyothi was able to commit to her healing. Now over a dozen years into living an active recovery, Jyothi is wholeheartedly convinced that:
-
healing is for everyone;
-
growth is a mindset; and
-
authenticity is powerful.
These three principles form the lighthouse of all of her offerings.
In 2005, Jyothi's discovery of yoga and mindfulness saved her life. In 2010, Jyothi left her career as an Education Policy Analyst to become a full-time yoga and meditation teacher. After spending several months living in the ashram community, Jyothi obtained her "Asanas and Pranayama” certification from the Integral Yoga Institute, Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville. She has additional certifications in:
-
Yin Yoga - a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga rooted in the Taoist tradition that targets the body's connective tissues and subtle body energies;
-
Yoga for Recovery - a collaboration of the practice of Yoga with its sister science, Ayurveda to support individuals on the path of addiction recovery;
-
Stress Management - an approach to healing from past stress, coping with stress as it inevitably arises, and developing a skillful resilience for the future;
-
Chair Yoga; and
-
Mindfulness as both a style of meditation and way of life.
Jyothi formally received the 5 Mindfulness Trainings from the Magnolia Grove Monastery - a Mindfulness Practice Meditation Center in the tradition of Plum Village in April of 2023. These nonsectarian, universal principles have become a guiding light in all areas of Jyothi's life. They include:
-
Reverence for Life - the commitment to protect life and decrease violence in oneself, the family, and society;
-
True Happiness - the commitment to social justice, generosity, and non-stealing;
-
True Love - the commitment to responsible intimacy while cultivating the four basic elements of true love - lovingkindness, compassion, joy, and inclusiveness;
-
Loving Speech and Deep Listening - the commitment to communication as a form of healing and reconcilitation; and
-
Nourishment and Healing - the commitment to mindful consumption for body and mind
Since 2022, Jyothi has used all of her training and experience to serve as a Life Coach serving the healthcare community, fellow military spouses, and individuals living an active recovery.
Jyothi also has an M. Ed. from the University of Maryland, College Park in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a focus on Curriculum Development and Phenomenology.
Jyothi lives with her husband, Bo, their two vibrant and creative children, and their labrador, Ruby Joy - wherever the Navy sends them.
